Christmas Journal — Day 4

December 4, 2007 by Suzanne

December 4, 2007

I had to go get groceries, and spent the day thinking about this prompt. The idea was to think about what would be your perfect Christmas — whether it be a fantasy Christmas, or the things that would make up a really great Christmas 2007 or….whatever.

Here’s what my journaling says today:

When I was a kid, we lived too far away from our extended family to spend holidays with them. Instead of going “over the river” to Grandma’s house, we went own the street to the Johnsons to have Christmas Brunch with the Johnsons,  Angelos, and any other family that needed a place to go. Mostly, though, it was about our immediate family and the traditions that were important to us.

Now that my brother, sister, and I are adults, we live too far apart to spend Christmas together. In fact, last December was the first time in several years that David, Debra, and I were all in the same place at the same time.

Today, as I contemplated what sorts of things I thought I might need for a Perfect Christmas, the thought that I kept returning to had nothing
to do with the trappings of the holiday season. My perfect fantasy Christmas would be simple: the three of us kids, our parents, our spouses and
our children, all in the same place.

That would be a perfect Christmas, indeed.

The picture of my sister-in-law is very old (2000!), and I hope to replace it with a new one (David! Did you get my e-mail?!) Actually, the picture of my husband and my brother-in-law are quite old as well (2003!), and I probably ought to find something different for them, but I think they are just going to have to live with these the way they are.

In addition to groceries, I picked up a few Christmas gifts and also bought some fabric for teacher Christmas gifts. Yes, I give quilts at Christmas time. If I were smarter I would have started them….a year ago….LOL. Last year’s quilts were actually quilts that were already made and waiting to be gifted to someone to love. This year, I don’t feel like I have anything appropriate, so something new (but quick) will be made for both teachers. I’ll take pictures tomorrow.

I also got a postcard today, but that’ll have to wait for tomorrow, too.

TTFN-

Suzanne

p.s. I’m feeling much better than I did over the weekend, but now my poor husband has the cold, too. Luckily, he never gets it as bad as I do, but he was sure snoring loudly last night. Made it hard for me to sleep!

I agree that family makes Christmas. We are lucky that 3 of our 4 kids live close. My fondest memories of Christmas are taking the horses and sleigh to my Grandparents for Christmas dinner. No, I’m not THAT old, but my Dad loved horses and my Grandparents lived close.

I think this page is indeed Perfection … and I think it not matters if the photos are new or old, ’tis the feel of the photo – the moment in time that was special … Family would indeed make the most perfect Christmas for me too …
Ohhh I’m so pleased to hear that someone else is still making/crafting pressies even though Christmas is still a long 19 days away … ha ha
Suzanne, Seasons Greetings to you & yours … B
